Fugitive Geometries
Fugitive Geometries was an exhibition of paintings held at Gallerysmith in 2020.
It is in these works that I first developed my technique of using photographic screen-printing as a starting point for making the paintings.
Images of landscapes (from Darebin creek and further travels) were screen-printed, layered and sanded back, providing a rich texture of pattern and colour to play against, and a counterpoint to the fragmented geometry I then worked over the top.
For me, the landscape textures were alternative forms of pattern that brought their own contemporary and historical associations, creating a context in which I could explore ideas around fragmentation and wholeness, order and disorder.
